After several weeks of being too nice to Tyler in our viewing choices... a power move is pulled and we watch Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, the 1978 cult classic, that is guaranteed to cause him pain. In a brilliant counter, Tyler makes the rest of us watch Anatomy of Hell, Catherine Breillat's 2004 arthouse erotic thriller... I guess "thriller" works. I'm not sure what other handy and easy to convey genre label I could use.

Cults, Cuts, and a Singer Gone Nuts

In this episode we are joined by a Very Special Guest, unlike our previous guests who were all hitchhikers we found off various backroads off I-70. First up we take a long hard fake documentary style look at Charlie and the Manson Bunch in Jim Van Bebber's 16-year long passion project that is filled with some amazing talent, regardless of how you feel about the film as a whole, The Manson Family. 
After that we take a weekend holiday in Spain at at the luxurious villa clinic of Antonio Banderas... I mean, Doctor Robert Ledgard and his not at all, uh, unique, yeah let's go with that, relationship with body stocking enthusiast Vera to feel better about The Skin I Live In. ***WARNING! THERE ARE HEAVY SPOILERS FOR THE SKIN I LIVE IN*** There is a handy warning in the episode itself and a nice idea of where those spoilers end. Because if you have ANY interest, you really should go into it as blind as possible. 
Arriving back just in time to drop our guest at their date with The Phantom of the Paradise, Brian De Palma's 1974 glam rock musical tale of Faustian deals, Paul Williams songs and the consequences of improper record press machinery procedure.

Angel Attraction

This week we finish off the original Angel series as Molly finds herself back in LA and bringing closure to one of the bigger questions of the High School Hollywood Hooker's saga. Tragically, it opens up even more questions that we will ponder until Death's sweet embrace. Thanks, Angel 3: The Final Chapter (until Angel 4: Undercover). Then we visit one of the most high drama colleges back East to learn the Rules of Attraction, the most direct adaptation of a Bret Easton Ellis book ever conceived. To our despair, the school store was out of Camden College hoodies.
Also Craig loses time in his puppy dungeon, we have to bring in a ringer, and GET HYPED for next week's very special guest. She's going to read to us very slowly and we might all finally understand what's going on.

Episode 61- Angel Attraction

Surreal Sci-Fi

This week RotP takes a swim in the Big Cauliflower money bin with films insidiously disguised as surreal science fiction. For an antipasto we nibble Tarkovsky's epic about a casual walk to a room full of cauliflower, Stalker. Followed by a light serving of Zardoz, in the distant future mankind has fractured into the barbaric mortal Brutals and the civilized immortal Eternals thanks to an advanced AI, cloning vats, magic, books and the vitamins found in multiple daily servings of cauliflower. For the main course we indulge in the animated French allegory of racism, human rights, and animal right, Fantastic Planet, where everything is made of cauliflower, including their giant sex statues. Finally we finish the gluttony session up with Under the Skin, a movie about a beautiful alien who captures horny men in a van driven used to deliver everyone's favorite white fleshed veggie to Tescos across Edinburgh.

All that as well as Dave has a love-hate relationship with Godzilla, Craig waxes lyrical about his hopes for the future of the Fast and Furious series, Kevin remembers his Mom and Dad, and Tyler makes threats.

Do the Venomous Cat Thing

This week we discuss two classics from the 1980s. Spike Lee's 1989  masterpiece Do the Right Thing and 1988's evil cat on a boat movie Uninvited. One is a timeless hard look at American race relations and the other has a cat on a boat. One has an incredible performance from Danny Aiello, the other an incredible fight between George Kennedy and a rubber glove. One is set during a heat wave in the Big Apple, the other on a boat off the coast of Florida. You can see why we would pair these two films together.

This week we hum along with Hugh Jackman, who still refuses to actually sing on film, and Zac Efron, who doesn't mind singing on film, in The Greatest Showman. We then take up residence in Short Term 12 and feel feelings we really didn't want to feel.
