In the game room, they find a deeply racist board game that addresses them directly. Will they survive the night? What happened to the two who obviously arrived first and decorated? Who is behind this deadly game of trivia and identity? One of the sharpest horror comedies of the last decade, The Blackening.
     In a devastated world, Mariano spends his days making gas for others outside and slowly converting his cavernous space into an actual cave. When siblings Lucio and Fauna invade his space, Mariano presses them into helping him in exchange for food and shelter. Soon the demands become more horrific and extreme. Will the siblings escape the lascivious hermit's clutches? What is Mariano actually doing? What exactly is happening outside?      This week October comes early as we watch three ghoulish offerings for Spooky Season.

     Jimmy Bones was murdered and buried in the basement of his house. A house left abandoned as the neighborhood he loved rotted with it. Twenty-two years later a group of unexpected young entrepreneurs take the property and release Jimmy's vengeful spirit on those who betrayed him long ago. Ernest Dickerson's campy social commentating love letter to 70s blaxploitation, Bones.
     Single mother Carla Moran is repeatedly violently raped by an invisible assailant. Finding no help from psychiatrist Dr. Sneiderman, who believes her trauma is the cause of these events, Carla accepts extremes to escape her horrific situation. Sidney J. Furie's modern gothic parable of cultural female sexual victimization and repression, The Entity.
     A young nursing student goes to visit her grandparents before graduation. There she learns an awful truth and must decide if she will perpetuate this cycle or break it no matter the cost to her family and herself. An incredible debut feature from Yûta Shimotsu, Best Wishes to All (original Japanese title:みなに幸あれ Romanized: Mina no ko are).

   Episode 432- Best Hauntings to Some

Ordeal

     This week, John from And Now For Something a Little Bit Different joins us for a pair of movies about brutal random violence, monsters of societal creation, and retribution. 
     Magda, Camila, Julia, and Andrea go to a remote house owned by a relative for a weekend of decompression and drinking. Their revelry is soon disturbed by a local and his son who have spent their lives perpetuating the cycles of violence created in the Pinochet regime. Will the girls survive the night? Does the current government representatives offer any hope of rescue? Does this movie really have anything to say about anything or is it just using historical reference points as a justification for fairly generic misogynistic violence? The fourth feature from Chilean shock artist Lucio A Rojas, Trauma.
     The car Lance just bought from his half-brother almost immediately breaks down. Stuck in the middle of nowhere, he has no choice but to take a ride offered to him by a man in a truck. Not long into their ride the man asks Lance a question, if he had to kill his half-brother or his wife, which would he kill. Lance makes his choice, not yet realizing this question is only the start of a gore soaked ride of revenge. Can Lance remember what sin from his past has motivated this confrontation? Just how vicious was his past? Is the Stranger just targeting him out of boredom? The directorial debut of cult actor and screenwriter Trent Haaga, Chop.

Alexis claims to be a real psychic medium and able to help her put her ghosts to rest. Fearing she is being taken advantage of Christine's fiancé, Paul, and her sister, Janet, decide to uncover her new friend as a fraud. Will they be able to expose a charlatan preying on a still grieving widow? Can Alexis deliver on his promise of respite from the ghost haunting her? Will this web of deceit and psychological torture be untangled before Christine meets a ghastly ghoulish ending? A classic noir from a blacklisted director with one of the genre's favorite femme fatales, The Amazing Mr. X (aka The Spiritualist).
     After being left by her lover, Jenny makes the mistake of going to see her old friend turned Catholic priest Bernard at his church. Tragically, the ear hearing her confession of jilted romance and coerced abortion is not that of her old friend but elderly Father Meldrum. Meldrum, a fervent believer in the concept of divine justice, decides to nurture and guide Jenny in a way he has done many times before. How far can Meldrum push before anyone will help Jenny? Who do you turn to when no one will believe your desperate pleas for help? An overlooked shocker from one of England's most beloved cult filmmakers, Pete Walker, is a cold-blooded film about how those in power can use their position to harm with impunity- House of Mortal Sin.

     This week we kick off October and Horror Season with something old from a legendary studio and something new from a go-to service for fright fiends.

     Gerald and Marianne honeymooning through Bavaria in 1910 run out of gas and learn they are miles off course and days away from any fuel delivery. Taking refuge at the local inn, they catch the eye of Dr. Ravna and his children who invite them to a ball at their home. Separated during the festivities Gerald soon discovers that under all the frivolity lies a vampiric cult. Can Gerald save his bride? Will anyone lend him aid besides the drunk professor? Could Marianne really prefer the life of a bloodsucker? Don Sharp's first film for Hammer, Kiss of the Vampire.
     Alone one night, while renovating her new home, Dani is brutally murdered. A former patient of her psychiatrist husband, Ted, is quickly convicted of the crime and sent back into Ted's care. Justice being quickly served, Ted begins his life anew and takes up with Yana, a pharmaceutical rep. Just when Ted thinks he can move on with his life, his deceased wife's blind twin sister shows up at his door with an unusual gift. Was the right person convicted? Will Ted ever find peace to leave his tragedy in the past? Could the mysterious gift be the key to supernatural justice? The second feature from Damian McCarthy, shot in the same converted barn as his first, Oddity.

     A belated sequel to a cult film from the House of Mouse. It has been 29 years since the Sanderson Sisters came back from the dead to try and eat all the children of Salem. This time they plan to get infinite power so they can have revenge on Salem and the Traske bloodline that originally banished them from the town 350 years earlier. The only people standing in their way is a pair of aspiring teen witches and the mayor's daughter. Will the Sandersons get maximum magic power? Will the girls find a way to fight magic with magic? Will Disney wait another 29 years to fully reboot or are the young cast signed on to never ending sequels? Hocus Pocus 2.
    Mäddy decides to join the cheer squad in tribute to her late friend, Alexis, who died last year in a cheer accident. Soon she ingratiates herself into the squad. Meanwhile, Leena, Mäddy's ex-girlfriend, just cannot understand why she wants to hang around those girls and not her magical self. But Mäddy has a reason for her actions, to get revenge on Alexis' former boyfriend, Troy. Will Mäddy get her revenge? Will the girls ever have any agency of their own? How did no one notice that Troy is an over the top psychopath? All Cheerleaders Die.

     This week- Horror Movie Month begins! Be you a October Horror Challenge participant or an enthusiast who doesn't go for gimmicks or a fan of kids fright flicks or a connoisseur of the extreme, welcome to the most wonderful time of the year. 

     Someone is killing the staff at Pleasure Island, a sprawling resort owned by former beach bum singer, Coconut Pete. Can the staff hold out until the boat arrives to safely take them back to the mainland? Could the killer be the new magic fingered masseur, Lars? Could it be Coconut Pete's nephew? Will aerobics instructor Jenny survive to take her place as a world beloved exercise guru? Is anywhere safe on Broken Lizard's Club Dread?
     Perfection, Nevada... a small town with a big problem. Val and Earl have had enough with their lot as handymen, doing every dirty job as it comes up. The boys decide to pack up and head to neighboring Bixby. Unfortunately, they waited a day to long to come to this realization and will soon find everyone between them and freedom has fallen prey to something new. Rhonda, a seismology student conduction a study in the valley, has found some unusual and worrying readings. Survivalists, Burt and Heather Gummer, believe they are prepared for any situation... they are wrong. A b-movie masterpiece and the last practical creature feature before the CG effects boom... Tremors.
     A squad of British soldiers think they are in the Scottish highlands for a training exercise against a special forces unit. Before long they find only one member of the other squad, alive but grievously wounded. They will soon learn their real reason for being there... as bait for werewolves. Can the squad last the night or will they be taken in the onslaught of teeth and fur? Multiple cult filmmaker Neil Marshall's debut feature, Dog Soldiers.

    This week we finish out our watch of Chucky.

     One month after the evens of 3, The Lakeshore Strangler's girlfriend, Tiffany Valentine, has spent the last decade brushing up on her voodoo and trying to get her hands on any piece of Chucky she can. Finally, all her work and patience is about to pay off in a way she should have seen coming. Beware Bride of Chucky.
     Shitface was found abandoned in a cemetery and now lives a life of humiliation and abuse as a ventriloquist's dummy. The only clue to their origin is a stamp "Made in Japan" on their left wrist. Meanwhile, in Hollywood, Jennifer Tilly is working on a new horror movie, Chucky Goes Psycho. Her costars are brand new animatronics made using parts from the real Chucky and Tiffany. Soon, Shitface will have two new names and their parents and every homicidal doll might get an upgrade to a human body. What horrrors are unleashed by a Seed of Chucky?
     Nica lives with her mother, Sarah, in an old, crumbling, and isolated house. One day a doll is delivered to their home from an unknown source. It isn't long until Sarah is dead and the house is stuffed with mourners spending the night before the funeral. Before dawn, Nica will learn how long she has spent her life under the Curse of Chucky.
     Andy Barclay has a secret. He has the head of Chucky mounted, half destroyed but still talking, in a safe in his wall. It plays hell with his social and romantic life. Nica has spent the last four years under the care of Dr. Foley, who finally feels it's time to transfer Nica to less a restrictive facility... a place that allows patients to have visitors. Soon the ward have as many Good Guy dolls as patients. Will either Andy or Nica escape the clutches of Cult of Chucky?

     This week we take a look at Your Friend to the End's beginnings and the recent remake attempt.
     All Andy Barclay wants is a Good Guys Doll for his birthday. All serial killer Charles Lee Ray wants is a new body to call his own before being forever trapped in a doll. All Karen Barclay wants is for her young son to not be a developing killer. All Detective Mike Norris wants is to quickly and neatly wrap up the case. Only one of these people will get what they want. It might be all fun and games but none of it is.... Child's Play.
Two years after the first film, young Andy finds himself in foster care as his mother was packed off to a psychiatric hospital. While Chucky appears to be taken care of, Andy still doesn't trust Good Guys Dolls.           Unfortunately for Andy, the doll's parent company is secretly working on putting ol' Charles Ray back together again- just to make sure it hadn't evil switched or something. Soon Andy is once again fighting for his life beside fellow foster resident, Kyle. Andy and Kyle will lean navigating the system isn't Child's Play 2.
     Set eight years after the events of 2 and seven years in the future from its 1991 release, Andy is fresh meat at the Kent Military Academy. The school's commandant hopes that Andy can finally find some stability and put his doll fantasies behind him. Tragically, the parent company feels that the bad press from the two murder sprees is finally behind them and, instead of being reasonable and ending the line by replacing it with a new similar doll, they throw the factory door back open and roll a brand new reincarnation of Chucky off the line. The student body is about to learn war games aren't Child's Play 3.
     Taking a look at the receipts of the last original series entry and the current trend of evil doll movies, MGM decides to finally flex their long held remake option and cut off the original creators at the knees after abandoning the franchise way back in 1988. The Kaslan Company is the center of all life in every living space in the world, everything from security cameras to table saws to HVAC systems to mobility services. At the heart of the Kaslan ecosystem is the new Buddi doll. Not just the center interface for your life but also a super AI designed to be your best friend from birth until death. One day a sweatshop worker is pushed too far by his boss and flips a doll's evil switch before killing himself. That doll ends up through a convoluted route into the life of Andy Barclay and Child's Play (2019) ensues.

 October Horror Week 2- Four films from 1981, all prominently featuring books as driving plot devices.

     Five college students go to an old abandoned cabin in the woods. Before long they discover the Necronomicon Ex -Mortis, bound in human flesh and inked in human blood, and a handy reel to reel recorder that has a couple relevant passages ready to make sure they will all be dead by dawn. A film that spawned three feature follow-ups (soon to be four), nine video games (soon to be ten), an endless number of comics (which just started a new series), a musical, a one-man stage show, and a tv series- The Evil Dead.
     Decades ago the citizens of New Orleans stopped a painter from opening one of the doors to Hell with the mystical tome Eibon. Fifty-four years later the building has been inherited by a New Yorker who decides to open it as a hotel. Not too far into renovations, the painter's ghost returns to finish what it started. Umberto Lenzi's most polarizing film. One of the most deeply loved and vehemently hated horror films ever produced by Italy. Incoherent, atmospheric, chaotic, evocative, and lightly gore splattered- The Beyond.
     After spending seven years running an international conglomerate, the Antichrist accepts the position of U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain, a position held by his adoptive father when we first met him. Having fully embraced his lineage, Damien Thorn now looks to rewrite his destiny by killing the Second Coming's return to power. Now all boys born on the day of a unique astral alignment are marked for death. The only ones standing between the son of Satan and victory are seven priests who hold the only Earthly means of killing Damien. The world is in turmoil, wars threaten to breakout everywhere, the stage is set for- The Final Conflict aka Omen III.
     A trio of students head into the jungles of Columbia to prove if one's doctoral thesis and putting an end to the myth of cannibalism. It isn't long until they encounter two more honkies from New York... who just happen to be running from cannibals. For reasons that no one watching or involved understand the five-some go back to the village. Meanwhile, a detective and city tour guide are looking for our not-so-intrepid party. Freddy vs Jason vs Toothfairy vs Dissociative Identity Disorder

    We start off October with a foursome of fright flicks from the year 2003. 

     The fight of the century. The two biggest heavyweights in horror history finally square off on both their home turfs with the kids of Springwood as the prize. In this corner- the Momma's Boy from a Watery Grave, the Soaked Terror of Forest Green, the Tapper to Camp Blood's Keg- Jaaaaaason Vooooorheeees! And in the opposing corner- The Springwood Slasher, the Son of a Thousand Maniacs,  the Overcooked Red Baron with His Own Knives- Frrrrrrrrrrrrrrrredy Kruuuuuger! Let's hope for a dirty fight- Freddy vs Jason.

     In this town, every child receives a special visit when they loose their last baby tooth. Unfortunately, 12 years ago Kyle opened his eyes and saw the Toothfairy. Now he must return home and help his childhood friend's brother who also saw her. Can Kyle save the kid or will he be just another victim in Darkness Falls?
     Su-mi returns home after being treated for shock and psychosis. It isn't any time until she sees the effects of her step-mother's vicious abuse. To make it worse, on the first night she starts being haunted by a ghost. A modern take on a popular folktale, A Tale of Two Sisters.
     Kenneth is a brilliant technical writer but painfully socially repressed and awkward. When a major project with a tight deadline lands on his desk. To make it worse, he is assigned an attractive temp he finds himself unable to communicate with. Before too long, Kenneth begins to buckle under the pressure and stress... until Nikki enters his life. A realistic love doll that he can connect with and work through his social issues. Finding his life finally coming together, Kenneth soon beings to branch out, connecting with the temp in ways he never could before, and learns that Nikki doesn't like that. What will become of his Love Object? 

     All that and Tyler reminisces while Kevin and Dave have the scariest realization is that these were released almost 20 years ago and both are old now.

 Drawing October to a close with the final five nights He came home.

After falling down a well last year, Michael Myers finds himself fully recovered and tries to take custody of his traumatized niece. He finds all of the town once again standing against him. Will he finally get The Revenge of Michael Myers?

While trying to bring home a troubled teen, Michael finds himself having to deal with an obsessed Tommy Doyle and a new generation of Strodes. Fortunately, this time he has some help from a druidic cult. Unfortunately, Dr. Loomis is trying his best to bring about The Curse of Michael Myers.

Timeline 2!!!!

Laurie did not have a daughter and did not die in a car accident in 1980. Instead she faked her death, spent the last 18 years living under an assumed named, and has been teaching English at a rich kids prep school while raising a son. A son who has just turned 17... the same age Laurie was when Michael appeared... the same age Judith was when she met her tragic end. Will Michael finally find the loving relative he has craved or will he have to wait for H20: 20 Years Later again?

Three years after failing to make amends, Michael goes home to try and find comfort as he mourns Laurie, who died in a mental care facility after murdering a poor EMT who tried to help Michael. Unfortunately, Haddonfield refuses to not torment him. Finding his home overrun with college kids competing in a new streaming reality show. No matter how hard you try to run the past is always waiting for Resurrection.

Fortunately, she was right to listen to herself as 62-year old Michael has escaped from his incarceration and is roaming the streets of Haddonfield... in obvious need of assistance because dude keeps walking into the wrong homes and has no idea where or who he is.      October Horror gathers speed as we crash through the first four films in the Halloween franchise!

    After fifteen years in an asylum, Michael Myers decides its time to take a small walk around his hometown and take in the decorations on Halloween.
    Michael walks to the local hospital, after wounds received earlier that evening, and doesn't receive anything resembling quality care in Halloween II.

    A doctor with a drinking problem and sexual addiction has a breakdown and imagines a ridiculous conspiracy involving the better masks his ex bought for the children he emotionally abuses due to his never ending midlife crisis... or not. Halloween 3: Season of the Witch.

    Finally Mike wakes up from a decade long coma inflicted on him by an obsessed doctor in his last appearance. He decides to go home and try to forge a relationship with his only remaining living relative. Unfortunately, the niece's adoptive sister decides she can't share her with anyone in Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers. 

    All that and the existential dread the rest of the series conjures gnaws away at the crew. Join us, won't you?

      October Horror continues as we are joined by Christianne Benedict to take a look at four LGBTQIA+ themed films.

While Anne struggles with this, her actors begin being murdered by a mysterious leather clad person with a grudge. Will Anne finish her magnum opus, Homocide, before she stands alone? Will she and Lois find closure? What is the deal with the mystical bird? There might be answers in Knife + Heart.

    Brad and Janet, a pair of young loving lovers who love, are so excited for their engagement they decide they have to visit the professor whose class they first met during. A minor bit of bad luck, during a torrential storm, brings them to the castle of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. This night will be one of tests and awakenings as the vanilla couple are shown such sights. All with some really upbeat music and one of film's most charismatic performances ever. Are you trembling with anticip................ation for The Rocky Horror Picture Show?

    Just a little movie about Jack & Diane, two American kids doing the best that they can. Okay, part of that is a lie. A movie about the least realistic young lesbian relationship ever put to film. It's a strong claim but I still don't get why they are a thing. Also features some burgeoning young desire as lycanthropy thing crammed in. You know, it's just a bad movie. Seriously, why did anyone give these people money? Listen to us eviscerate it because that's all it's good for. Or maybe it's a modern classic? Probably not.

    Gunnar and Einar's relationship is over. One has moved on and the other has secluded himself in a cabin out in the middle of Iceland's beautiful but cold pastures. A drunken phone call brings them back together to deal with the ghosts of their past inside and the ghosts haunting the lava fields outside. Can closure be found? Is the emotional momentum of a relationship worth the toll when it's ripped away? Can anything put the ghosts of your past to rest? Is there any way to heal a Rift (Rökkur)?

    A serial killing taxi driver takes in a new pet. As the years pass he decides to mold the child into being his protégée. Will Rabbit follow this dark path or will he find salvation from Jennifer Lynch's Chained nightmares?

    Unfairly maligned on release but recently receiving a complete reassessment, Karyn Kusama's dark comedy in finding a very receptive cult. Taking initiative at a gig in a small town, a mediocre band sacrifices Needy's best friend to the legions of Hell. Things take a turn when she reappears with a craving for male classmates. What is Needy to do with Jennifer's Body?

    One of the best vampire films ever made. Caleb discovers the night life when his too aggressive flirting gets him a small neck wound. Taken by a group of nomadic killers, with his father and younger sister on their trail, and forced to choose between love and eternal night or a worse fate. Kathryn Bigelow shows us what happens Near Dark.
